Lead by Ernie Matchulat, saxophonist, and Joe Syrian, drummer, the musicians of the Motor City Jazz Octet are some of the finest musicians in Detroit. The can be found performing in the best clubs, theatres, and concert venues in the area. Each player has his own following of interested students, respectful peers, and avid music fans. They are here, not because they need a job, but, because they love the music.

1920's New Orleans style... "All ages love Dixieland" !
1930's The Swing Era... Duke Ellington, Count Basie. "We have it!" 1940-50's Modern Jazz... Rooted in the Blues, flourished. Big Band, BeBop, and Latin Jazz. "Our library covers it all."
1960's-Tomorrow... Jazz spread into Rock, Classical, and has currently encompassed World Music.
